As two years ago in the Seychelles, our friend Fred proposed us to join him for a cruise, in the West Indies this time . He waits for us on the island of Grenada which he joined with a first crew and we take the continuation to bring back the boat to Martinique. New, in the midst of our gang of retirees or close to retirement, are also part of his forty-year-old daughter and his nine-year-old granddaughter. Before I found them again, I was a little worried about their possible attitudes towards my desire for nudity. In fact, already used to sailing with their father and grandfather who can easily appear naked during his cruises, the problem did not arise. From the first morning at anchor in a quiet bay, almost everyone threw themselves naked into the water for the traditional first morning bath. It was the same almost every day, when we were not near a port or a village. Some would remain so for a while before getting dressed for sailing. For my part, it was naked as often as possible, sailing naked seemed to go for granted!
Before leaving, while learning about this region, I had stumbled upon photos of an underwater sculpture park and dreamed of a naturist visit of this place. But I feared that this place would be invaded by boats and swimmers. We spent our first night next door and at 8am we were with the boat’s tender in the area…and alone. Immediately in the water with masks and fins, scattered in search of these statues. What a strange sight to see at a shallow depth, a few metres, but already wrapped in the colour of the seabed, this circle of human silhouettes holding hands, or a mermaid resting on the ground of rocks and sand.
Sandy Island, facing the island of Cariacou, is a comma of sand surmounted by coconut trees. A few hundred meters long, only a few meters in its narrowest width. Deserted, but well frequented during the day. We anchored there at the end of the afternoon. In the morning, around 6 o’clock, I swam to the islet, watched the sun rise over the hills of the neighbouring island. There were a few boats at anchor, but nobody in sight. I started running to one end, then the other, then chained three round trips for a quarter of an hour running, just at the edge of the water. Return to the boat for breakfast, then snorkeling over the corals. The seabed was nice there. Still alive, which is not the case everywhere. It seems that corals have suffered greatly from the effects of warming waters and locally from the consequences of cyclones.
Two weeks sailing from Granada to Martinique passing by the Grenadines archipelago, Saint Vincent and Saint Lucia with some excursions on land, notably the climb to the Soufrière volcano at Saint Vincent in the rain in the tropical forest, « rain forest » in English, to find the crater in the fog or a mud bathing session at the Soufrière volcano (also) in Saint Lucia much more touristic.
In short, two weeks out of time, no networks, no computer, but not without camera!

On my way to the Pyrenees, I decided to make a stop on the Mediterranean coast. After a search on the internet, I opted for the beach of Les Montilles in Port la Nouvelle. Two arguments have decided me: naturist beach and on which it is possible to drive a car.
I arrive in Port la Nouvelle at the end of the afternoon. Indeed, a hard sand track allows you to go along the beach. There are a dozen vehicles scattered over the sand, mostly camping cars. I put my van on the edge of the beach, undressed me, took the bike out of its rack and drove naked on the beach. On hard sand, no problem, but when approaching the seaside the terrain becomes softer and finally it is necessary to stop pedaling and push to reach the shore. A quick bath and I’m back in the van. What a pleasure after several hours of driving.
The beach is officially forbidden to vehicles at night from 9pm to 7am. So I land for the night in a street of the city and at 7 and a quarter o’ clock I am again on the beach. The day is just beginning to dawn. It’s still dark out there. I start with a return trip on foot, followed by the same route by bike, a short swim, a few steps along the shore and then a return to the van around 9am by bike. During all this time I had the beach practically for myself. I’m cooking myself breakfast. It will be time to head back to the Pyrenees.

Small Sunday afternoon outing by mountain bike. Dressed light for a cyclist: short shorts and a tee shirt, I ride by the road in the direction of the pass of Clémencière. The advantage of a MTB with electric assistance is that I am not asphyxiated in this climb. I remain reasonable, with assistance to 2 out of 4. In fact I will only put the turbo on the beginning of the way above the hamlet of Ripaillère to pass the first stony climb before finding a flatter terrain and down the assistance and even to cut it at times. On this road I cross two or three walkers. I arrive at the tunnel which leads to the former fort of Batteries. There is no one in the area. I undressed to look for a geocache quickly found. Then I go up the laces of a path that rises in the forest until the path stops. Half turn and descent to the fort. I go back by the tunnel. I am so well naked that I decide to resume the forest track like this. I drive until I see two people in the distance. By bike, it’s harder than hiking to cover up quickly. I prefer to turn around and join another path that will take me down. Well, it’s time to get dressed again. I find the road, pass the Col de Clémencière and go down home with a few detour by short cut.

It is a family trip with my partner, her sister and her brother-in-law in an area of the globe that I absolutely do not know. Before leaving, I browsed the forums on the internet and especially the site of Captain Barefoot, the bible on naturism in the Greek islands. Being the only naturist of the group, I do not know how this will happen; I just hope I can bathe somewhat and do some naked snorkeling.
We are based in the small town of Palekastro, on the east coast of Crete, a large village with white houses, surrounded by forests of olive trees. As of early June, there are still few tourists, traffic is mainly that of local pick-ups. Moreover, this region is fairly preserved from the tourist pressure which disfigures certain sites on the north coast. The welcome is warm and smiling.
From the first day, the first beach, that of Itanos, about ten kilometers. At the end of the road, a beach directly in front of the car park, the most frequented, clothed, but passing in five minutes walk a small butte we arrive at a second sandy beach, quieter. That day, maybe a dozen people in swimsuits, but at the end of the beach, under a cliff, a rocky block made like a separation wall and behind four a five naturists. I settle there, my companions right next to the other side of the rock, textile side. So we’re almost together. Quick the fins, the mask and the snorkel and I go to explore the seabed. In the late afternoon, the beach emptied. I join my companions while remaining naked. This Itanos beach will be our favorite and we will come there regularly. It is only at weekends, when Greek families come to enjoy the sea that naturism is impossible. There is still a third beach on this site, referenced naturist beach, which we will visit once, but pebble beach it will attract us less.
Second day and second beach, Xerocambos, a good hour drive further south. Captain Barefoot reports a possible beach under a small chapel and cliffs. So I guide the group up there. Indeed, this corner is quiet. Sand beach. Two or three people far enough away that I could remain naked in the midst of my companions in swimsuits. The return by a small road through the mountain is splendid.
The Maridati beach, at the end of a kilometer and a half dirt track is a protected site. A sign « nudism forbidden » in Greek and English at the end of the parking lot. But on this day there are only two other people on the beach, one at one end, the other at the center, and they seem naked too, and we settle at the other end with my companion.
The beach of Karoumes is accessible only by feet by a hike through the gorges of Chochlakies. A good hour of walking to get there, so much to leave. Or by boat. It is therefore considered welcoming for naturists. Indeed, most of those who come there nude to tan on the pebbles and bathe in a very clear water.
One day when my companions left for a bit of sightseeing by car, I reach the Chiona beach, the closest to Palekasro, in a twenty minute walk. Beyond the beach itself, a few coves dug into the rocky barrier. The first is occupied by a family, the third by a couple, but the second is free. I take advantage of that.
There are still some small deserted beaches along the coast.
So I naturally enjoyed the Cretan beaches naturally.
I also explored the surrounding area in snorkeling. But little disappointment, the underwater life is quite poor there.

This September, Bruno organized a week of naked hiking around his village of Saint Pierre d’Entremont, on the border of Isère and Savoie. Unfortunately, I was only able to participate in two of them. The one of Monday, with Bruno, Patricia and Bernard of Switzerland. Departure at the end of the small road after the hamlet of the Castle. We’re quickly naked. It goes up in the forest right away. By the way, I easily find a geocache. Then we are overtaked by a man who walks quickly with his dog. We really did not hear him coming. We reach the valley of the Eparres just below the pass of Bovinant. Clinking of the bells of the herd in the pasture. We climb to the right towards Petit Som. Crossing of a hiker descending in opposite direction. A few words of salvation. We’ll see him later. From the Col de Léchaud, we can see three people at the top of Petit Som. To cross them we put on shorts or pareo. During the snack, in the sun, just a step away from the path that leads to the Chimney, we see again the previous hiker. As he has already seen us naked, useless to get dressed! We decided to return by the Col du Fret and the 120 laces. For this we must go back to the Col de Bovinant. One can not avoid covering up to go through a group of a dozen hikers. The ascent to the Pass of the Freight is steep, but relatively short. On the other side, however, the slope is dizzying, in a narrow corridor between the rock bars. Here are the famous 120 laces. The descent is attacked by avoiding slipping. At the moment we arrive in a somewhat rocky part, a voice behind us and appears a monk, dress of white wool and large straw hat. Surprised, we told him we could cover ourselves. « I do not mind, but the two who are going to arrive may be embarrassed! » All the more so because there is a woman among us! We cover ourselves briefly. He passes by leaping, smiling, very at ease in these rocks. The other two, maybe novices, are more reserved. Then, from afar, he gives us a great sign of salvation. Surprising and friendly encounter. We continue the descent at a much more moderate pace, we! A little detour to take a look at a bog, then the forest. On arriving at the first house, there is a man who works. We get dressed definitively. The village of Saint Philibert and the house of Bruno are not far away.

Second hike on Friday. Still with Bruno and Patricia, with Gilbert of Lyon this time. The weather is much worse, the sky overcast and the rain is expected in the early afternoon. Bruno has prepared a new concept: the hiking-restaurant. A table is reserved at the inn, famous in the area, Chez Danny, in the small resort of the Desert of Entremont, at 1200 meters of altitude. As a precaution, we leave a car in case of the bad weather, with decent clothes in the trunk! Then we will park in the hamlet of Couriers, about 750 m. So this is a small difference in altitude that is waiting for us this morning. Sunken lane in the forest. One goes before several barns more or less abandoned, testimony of the peasant activity of old time. The screams of a shepherd after his beasts resound very close, then go off on the slope opposite our way, but we will hear it for a long time! The landscape opens into large fields of tall grass. A small house, closed but well restored, makes us envy. What a great place for a naturist holiday. Isolated, with a grand view on the Granier and the cliffs of Chartreuse. And a wall covered with ripe blackberries. Hmmm! At noon we cross a herd of cows and arrive on the road to the col de la Cluse. The restaurant is only a few hundred meters away and we have to put on the shorts. On the parking lot, we dress more « correctly ». The restaurant room is full, about twenty guests. Wooden decor. Shelves of local products: Bottles of chartreuse liquors and genépi. Mountain and savoyard meal washed down of course with Savoy wine. When we go out of the table, the announced rain is not there. We decide to continue the hike up to Pointe de la Cochette, 1620m. Digestive walk. At the top, the view is plunging on Saint Pierre d’Entremont. In the distance the Little Som, where we were Monday, seems under rain curtains. Quickly going down before it comes here. But surprisingly, it was rather a pale sun that accompanied us to the car.

In a meander of the Isère, at the gates of Grenoble, the Lac de la Taillat is an old gravel pit excavated in the 1980s during the construction of an Highway which became a protected ecological zone. A 20-minute cycle ride from the city, it is even possible to get there during a good meridian pose for a sun bath. Swimming is forbidden, but so tempting that …

Astronomie

Henri, a naturist from Savoie and an astronomy enthusiast, had invited us to an astro-nude evening. 5 of us met at the end of August at the end of a road in the forest of Corsuet above Aix les Bains and the Lake Bourget. After a picnic to get to know each other, we carried the equipment to a meadow with a clear view of the sky. It is still daylight, it is better to install and adjust the telescope and the lunette that Henri has brought with him. Then day gradually falls, night settles in, but the temperature remains mild and pleasant, no need to cover up. Henri explains the basics of observing distant stars or planets. Then the moon rises, luminous. Too luminous even. But what a spectacle it is to see the craters, mountains and seas of its whitish surface in close-up.

In principle, the Seychelles, renowned as much for its luxury tourism as for its tax haven banks, had never seemed to me a dream destination, but when a friend proposed a cruise among friends in a catamaran sailboat, I could not refuse. Especially since he will be the skipper and that we will be free of the choices of our navigation.
We are nine on the boat, three couples, two women and a man. I know some of them, more or less well, but two of them are unknown to me. A boat, even comfortable and well-equipped like catamarans, remains a place where privacy is reduced by lack of space, where it is impossible to isolate oneself. Not knowing how the rest of the crew would react to the nudity, I hoped at least to enjoy swimming around the boat and snorkeling above the corals. The first evening, at the first anchorage in front of a deserted beach, after a crossing under a tropical rain, I undressed for a first bath. The same the next day on awakening. Some imitated me and half of the group ended up naked in the water. Finally, everyone dressed up for navigation except me. In the absence of protest, I concluded that my naturism was accepted and I practically spent the two weeks naked on the boat during the crossings and at the anchorages, dressing myself with a swimsuit or a short only to approach the ports and go down to the ground.
Two weeks out of time, without internet connection. Two weeks of life to the rhythm of light, rising at dawn, lying early, to the rhythm of the weather, sun or tropical showers. Two weeks to enjoy the ocean, to observe the ballet of fish under the water through the mask, to try and sometimes succeed in catching them with the lines and hooks thrown at the back of the boat and to cook them in the barbecue. Two weeks of common life to get to know each other, to discover life paths so different. Two weeks of nudity that I owe to the tolerance of this group. I must thank them.

Mayotte

The island of Mayotte, a French department in the Indian Ocean, is not really an ideal destination for a naturist. It is strongly advised to avoid walking in isolated places. The paths in the forest are frequented by inhabitants who move between villages and cultivated fields. As for the beaches, even if they may seem quite empty by metropolitan standards, they are not really deserted. And the population, 95 per cent Muslim, cannot appreciate the nudity there. In short, a place to avoid for naturist holidays.
Being only half there on vacation, I tried to get around the difficulty. On the beaches, I would get into the water in my swimsuit with flippers and snorkel, move a little further away, then take off my swimsuit and wrap it around my wrist. Then I’d go for a thirty or forty minute swim, watching the sea floor through the mask. About a hundred meters from the shore, the drop-off is a barrier of rocks covered with coral. Multicoloured fishes are moving there, twirling around me. Between the beach and these rocks, turtles graze on the algae, moving on the bottom before coming up to breathe from time to time at the surface. Every day I would find these turtles, more or less in the same place. I never got tired of it
!

New stay in Mayotte. In 2012, it was the discovery of this island located between Africa and Madagascar. This year, I join Michelle who has been there for three years. My eyes on the island can take into account her knowledge of the different facets of everyday life, the terrestrial and marine environment, and her experience of social conditions in this society in full evolution between African traditions and French departmentalization. It is true that it is a land of contrasts: contrasting the blue of the sea and the green of the forests, contrasting traditional colorful outfits and road traffic, contrasting air-conditioned dwellings and corrugated iron huts.

But the lagoon is still there with its coral reefs very close to the beaches, so easily reachable with fins, mask and snorkel, populated with multicolored fish. Corals of all shapes whose colors vary according to the height of the tides and the orientation of the light: pinks, greens, bright white or violet, sometimes gray or beige or melting in the dark blue of the depths .

Friends were there a few days. Swiming together, he in swimsuit, me naked, the swimsuit wrapped around the wrist, I found myself on his images of gopro. With which I put together two short videos.
Unfortunately, on this island with a Muslim population, which is also experiencing serious problems of insecurity, especially in isolated places, it is difficult to really enjoy the many beaches lined with coconut palms and baobab trees. Too bad. I could still find some quiet places when coming out of the water or walking on the sand to fully enjoy the sun.

Bowling

The Gymno Club Rhodanien of Lyon organised naturist bowling sessions by privatising the first floor of a bowling alley in Limonest in the Lyon conurbation. Inviting also naturists from the region. I went there twice with Bernard and Francis from the association es Marcheurs Nus de la Roanne. The opportunity to discover an activity quite different from our usual hikes. But we quickly get caught up in the game, trying to control the trajectory of the ball, to count the points and compete between teams. Good moments of naturist conviviality.
