The Association of Naked Walkers of the Val de Roanne is affiliated to the French Federation of Hiking and as such can participate in its actions of development of hiking. This is the case, for example, for the marking out and maintenance of the GR Grande Randonnée trails. To do this, Bernard and I have taken part in training courses for taggers. Recently, the regional committee of the Drôme hiking department assigned us a section of GR 93. This Friday, October 13th, we left for a first day of marking on this trail.
From the Grimone pass, we reached the trail’s start point by 1.2 km of road. There we were able to undress to attack the serious things. This is because walking in a marking-out perspective is quite different from normal hiking. Be careful to be aware of the existing markings, study if they need to be restored, or if new markings may be necessary, watch for vegetation not to invade the path, cut off overhanging branches. In other words, we’re not moving very fast. The weather is fine and we enjoy the unobstructed view of the Vercors summits. The GR makes a long crossing in the western slope under the Jocou to reach the Seysse pass, then continues towards the Menée pass. At the Seysse pass, we stop there to come back by a variant of the GR which passes through the summit of Jocou after a beautiful steepness of 200 m of altitude difference. It’s 5:00 p. m. when we’re back at the Grimone Pass. One full day, we did most of the section. With a few encounters, a solitary hiker, a group of four women and then two men, to whom we quietly explained the association and our marking action.

As last year, we have scheduled a day to accomplish the marking-out and maintenance of a section of the GR93. There are five of us this Wednesday in mid-September. Bernard, Francis, Claude and myself, Franck joined us. He is not yet a member of the association but it will soon be.
Several groups have started before us. We attack and undress very quickly. The pace is not fast. There is little marking to do, but mostly the cutting of thorny bushes that invade the ground and overflow on the trail. Pruners and saws are activated. At noon, a shaded area is appreciated for the picnic. It is that by working in this way under the sun, fatigue is felt. In the afternoon, we finally leave the forest area, the alpine meadow environment is more open and above all less encumbered by brambles. It’s almost rest and a real naked hiking experience. After one last paint job, Bernard, Claude and Francis turn around. With Franck, I continue to the top of the Jocou to enjoy the panoramic view of the Vercors, the Trièves and the Devoluy. To meet a group we put on our shorts. We discuss about marking and then about naturism when hiking. Later, we’ll find them and then we’ll stay naked.

This year, Bernard is not available for this marking day. Well, it doesn’t matter, I’m going alone, in charge of the tools and the paint. I leave dressed in the shade, but as soon as I get to the sun I can undress. I pick up some markings, do a bit of clearing along the way. By the way I discover two geocaches located nearby. At the Seysse pass, the wind is blowing strongly. I turn around to check the markings in the other axis.
