Reading Philippe’s reports of his hikes along the tracks of the little train of La Mure, I realized that this nearby route had not even crossed my mind. And yet, what a beautiful place!
Since the end of October, a large rock collapse has been blocking the track of this tourist train line and preventing any train traffic. On the map, I spot a path that should join the track from the hamlet of Les Loriats in the village of Monteynard. It is freezing cold with a strong wind. I have three layers of polar fleece; it’s not a good place for a hike.
When I pass the small pass and find myself on the slope overlooking the Drac, I am immediately sheltered from the wind. I’m already feeling better right away, even though the ground is still all icy. I went down and warmed up by walking. I reach the sun. Now it’s even better and I can finally get undressed. Now I’m on the track.
On one side, the entrance to a tunnel. I start to venture inside, but my headlamp is weakening. I took spare batteries…but it’s not the right model. I resolve to turn around and go to the other side. I pass in front of an old house (station?) in ruins and continue to the next tunnel, blocked this one. According to the map, it seems to me that it is at the end of this tunnel where the collapse took place. So I stay on this section of track which is probably not the most beautiful of the line, then I go back up in the forest and get dressed when I reach the pass and the wind.
