Octobre 2006. Un après midi, en rentrant de Die vers Grenoble par la route du col de Menée, je décide de faire un arrêt. Un chemin démarre tout à coté. J’ai une paire de chaussures de marche dans le coffre. Allez! Je n’ai qu’un tout petit sac avec mes papiers, le téléphone et l’appareil photo. Je n’avais vraiment pas prévu de balade.
Le chemin monte entre des murs de buis puis en forêt. Il reste des traces d’habitations anciennes, les ruines d’une maison, une grange perdue dans les bois. Le cheminement continue par une montée tout droit en clairière jusqu’au col de Côte Chèvre. J’en connaissais l’autre versant, depuis le vallon de Combeau. Je fais demi-tour.
En passant près de la grange, je m’arrête et jette un coup d’œil à l’intérieur. Surprenant : Il y a là une ancienne machine à vapeur, couverte de poussière.
October 2006. One afternoon, returning from Die to Grenoble by the road to the col de Menée, I decide to make a stop. A path starts nearby. I have a pair of walking shoes in the trunk. Come on! I have only a small bag with my papers, the phone and the camera. I really did not plan a ride.
The path climbs between the walls of boxwood and then in the forest. There are traces of ancient dwellings, the ruins of a house, a barn lost in the woods. The trail continues on a steep ascent to the Col de Côte Chèvre. I know the other side of it, from the valley of Combeau. I turn around.
As I pass by the barn, I stop and look inside. Surprising: There is an old steam engine, covered with dust.
J’y suis retourné en avril 2019 lors d’un aller retour depuis la route de Menée avec Bruno, Guillaume et Marie dans des conditions presque hivernales avec des flocons de neige. Puis avec l’association des Marcheurs Nus du Val de Roanne en mars 2020 lors d’une expertise du balisage du sentier PR en boucle depuis les Nonnières par le col de Côte Chèvre et le vallon de Combeau. Chaque fois je me suis arrêté pour vérifier si l’alambic était toujours là!
I went back there in April 2019 on a return trip from the Menée road with Bruno, Guillaume and Marie in almost wintery conditions with snowflakes. Then with the association of the Naked Walkers of the Val de Roanne in March 2020 during an expertise of the marking of the PR trail in loop from Les Nonnières by the pass of Côte Chèvre and the valley of Combeau. Each time I stopped to check if the still was still there!
